Over the past decade, the cost of data infrastructure often associated with complex massively parallel sequencing (MPS) pipelines has continued to decline. Increased competition between cloud-computing providers, database technologies, and analytics frameworks has produced services and products that greatly reduce the costly and technical barriers that existed previously for the research and startup communities (1). The continued competition has even pushed technology companies to release internally built code libraries to better illustrate prowess, recruit potential engineers, and organically cultivate digital consumers. Even shared software development, via platforms such as Github (https://github.com/) or Gitlab (https://about.gitlab.com/), has become a routine engagement among engineers to improve collaboration, optimization, and code quality.
