Dual-mode light field display with enhanced viewing range: From far distance viewable to near distance touchable

Based on full analysis of the viewing characteristic of integral imaging and multiview display, a dual-mode light field display with viewing-distance detecting is proposed by changing the pixel clustering of the elemental image array and re-locating the center of the element image accordingly, the width of the viewing zone at target viewing distance is maximized and the viewing distance range of the light field display is enhanced. The optical experiment verified the effectiveness and validity of the proposed method. Our reported work will make a step further in light field display from far distance viewable to near distance touchable.
