To the Editor The ICAN trial has provided level 1 evidence favoring intrathoracic anastomosis after a total or hybrid minimally invasive esophagectomy. We commend the authors on a robust study design for a purely surgical trial. The quality control of the surgical technique before participation and later during the trial is meticulous and may lay the standard for future surgical trials.
