A multi-layer device reforms alkaline alcohol to hydrogen with unprecedented activities under light illumination of a standard Pt-decorated carbon nitride. Such remarkable activity is attributed to the efficient light harvest and mitigated particle aggregation due to the multi-layer structure in the light-triggered alkaline alcohol reaction.
