Conditions for the co-assembly of shape-controlled nanocrystals and templating polystyrene spheres into crack-free highly ordered macroporous structures preserving the functional and structural properties of the nanocrystals were determined. This opens the doors to numerous opportunities in photovoltaics, optoelectronics, and photocatalysis, the latter of which was demonstrated and optimized.
