Role of composition and size-dependent damping due to electron-surface scattering on plasmonic properties of gold-silver alloy nanoparticles: A theoretical study

Herein, we report the theoretical simulations on the near-field enhancement factor (NEF) and far-field scattering (FFS) properties of (i) gold-silver alloy (GSA) nanospheres, (ii) silica core - GSA nanoshells, (iii) gold core- GSA nanoshells, and (iv) silver core- GSA nanoshells. The role of size-dependent damping (SDD) due to the electron-surface scattering (ESS) and composition of alloy on the NEF and FFS spectra of these nanoparticles are studied in detail. Also, the role of the radius of the alloy nanospheres, radius, and thickness of the alloy nanoshells on the NEF and FFS spectra, is studied with and without considering the SDD due to the ESS. Finally, the plasmon resonance wavelength tunability in dielectric core-metal alloy nanoshells and metal core-metal alloy nanoshells is compared.
