Response of plant diversity of urban remnant mountains to surrounding urban spatial morphology: a case study in Guiyang of Guizhou Province, China

To explore response of plant diversity of urban remnant mountains (URMs) to its surrounding urban spatial morphological (USM), nine URMs embedded in the built-up area of Guiyang City were selected as the research objects by kernel density method. The total of 99 plant diversity survey plots were set up by the combination way of slope direction and slope position. Taking the edge line of the sample URMs as the datum, 16 buffer zones were set successively outward at step lengths of 100 m, with a total width of 1600 m. USM indices within each buffer zone were calculated by using spatial syntax and road density (RD). The relationship between USM indices and plant diversity of URMs were analyzed. The results shown that: (1) Plant diversity of URMs displayed a positive response to its surrounding USM indices, and the Connection (Con), Integration (I) and RD had significant response to the plant species diversity; The response relationship between the plant species diversity and the USM indices mostly started from 400 m scale, and the significance was mainly at the 600 m scale. (2) The order from high to low of the response relationship in different plant community levels was tree, herb and shrub; the response to Con, I and RD was strong in tree, that of to RD was significant in shrub, and that of to I, Con and Control (Ctrl) was strong in herb. (3) The response strength in different slope position was the foot of mountain > mountainside > mountaintop; There was a weak and unstable correlation between plant diversity in different slope direction and RD in the corresponding direction. This research could provide some scientific reference for mountainous urban spatial planning and plant diversity protection of URMs.
