Water oxidation reaction: Several popular semiconductor-based photoanodes modified with metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), molecular catalysts, and their derivatives as cocatalysts for photoelectrochemical (PEC) water oxidation reactions are summarized. For the PEC water splitting, MOFs and molecular catalysts as well as their derivatives in a composite photocatalyst system are beneficial to the light absorption, heterojunction construction, surface kinetic acceleration and surface defects passivation.
