This contribution aims to study the factors that prevent Moroccan’s children under the age of five from enjoying a good state of well-being. These factors are multiple and relate to various levels: the characteristics of the child and of his/her mother, the characteristics of the household and the communal characteristics. Through this article and based on the most recent available data (Demographic Health Survey (ENPS-2011) and the General Census of Population and Housing (RGPH-2014)), we highlight the relationship between the level of fertility and the well-being of children. Similarly, by using a multilevel analysis, we were able to identify the variables that significantly influence the child well-being of children under five in Morocco: the environment of residence, the characteristics of the mother (education, age, age at first marriage, marital status, work, parity, number of live births during the last five years); the characteristics of the household (density per room and density per room reserved for sleeping) and the characteristics of the commune (unemployment rate, illiteracy rate, parity of women aged 45 to 50; difference between the age at first marriage of the male and female; difference between the illiteracy rates). Several statistical methods were used, as the multiple correspondence analysis (MCA) to construct the composite indicator of child well-being (ICBEER). This later is introduced as a dependent variable in the multilevel models. The ICBEER could be improved in the future if information on the other dimensions of the child well-being are collected by the national information system.
