Puzzling! An Electrochemistry-based approach to the design of effective NLO chromophores exploiting the characteristics of their building blocks is proposed. NLO chromophore with the (poly)vinylene, divinylthiophene, divinylquinoxalinone / divinylquinoxaline bridges were composed as a puzzle and it was shown how the redox properties of individual blocks change during the transition from a single piece to the whole chromophore.
