Coaxial Control in Iteration Synthesis of Axis-Perturbed Mode Converter

A coaxial control technique is proposed for iteration synthesis of axis-perturbed mode converter, and a W-band TE 01 -to-TE 11 mode converter is designed by the improved iteration method. Optimizing the curvature instead of the axis, the iteration method has a fast convergence and a possibility of multifrequency design but cannot assure that the output port aligns with the input port. A cosine correction of curvature deduced from the intermediate parameter is introduced to align the input port to the output port and avoid influencing the normal vector of the input port and the output port. A conversion efficiency over 95% is achieved by the designed TE 01 -to-TE 11 mode converter from 87.4 to 102 GHz (the relative bandwidth 15.4%). As a validation, a conversion efficiency approximately 90% is obtained according to S-parameters measurement, and a high pure circular TE 11 mode output is demonstrated by near-field scanning.
