Synthesis, structural characterization and variable temperature electrical conductivity of a pentanuclear Pd(II)dithiolato complex

The sulphur bridged pentanuclear Pd(II) complex [Pd5(L)6] (1) (LH2 = benzene-1,2-dithiol) has been synthesized and X-ray crystallographically characterized. Each of the five metal centers in 1 are found to be in distorted square planar geometry. At room temperature in the solid-state 1 is found to conduct electricity. On increasing temperature, the electrical conductivity rises exponentially. From theoretical calculations electrical conductivity of 1 is found to behave in the range from metallic to semi conductor-like behavior.
