A photo-controllable TLR8 system was developed by site-specific genetic encoding of photocaged tyrosine to ensure spatiotemporal control of receptor function. The activity of TLR8 is masked in caged forms but can be restored upon decaging by exposure to UV light, making it a suitable tool for TLR8 function and regulatory mechanism studies.
