Leveraging the innate piezoelectricity of Silk Fibroin can be beneficial for the development of smart sustainable electronics for wearable and implantable biotechnologies. The review proposes various strategies that can be potentially used to tailor the piezoelectricity of Silk Fibroin to match its performance to traditional piezoelectric materials either by modification of secondary structure or by functionalization.
