Influence of Fluorine Substitution on Nonbonding Interactions in Selected Para-Halogeno Anilines

Fluorine substitution in organic molecules leads to modulation of nonbonding interactions. The fluorinated 4-halogeno anilines were studied as a model system to shed light on hydrogen and halogen bond formation. Results indicate that fluorine substituents not only modulate hydrogen/halogen bond formation but also competitively participate in nonbonding contacts, increasing the probability of halogen-halogen interactions occurrence.
