Abstract

A fossil cockroach, Periplaneta (?) perialla sp. nov., is described based on a larva from Rovno amber. This species is provisionally assigned to the genus Periplaneta. This is the first representative of the subfamily Blattinae, provisionally assigned to the modern genus Periplaneta, from the Eocene of Ukraine, and the first find of an amber insect from the Manevychi locality, Volyn Region. A detailed morphological description of the new species and comparison with modern cockroaches are given. It is shown that the fossil larva has a specifically modified abdominal apex characteristic of immature and wingless extant Blattidae.
