Teaching note: birth order theory critique as a learning opportunity

ABSTRACT

The integration of research understanding with the application of theory requires students to engage with the theory’s concepts and evaluate using key research concepts. A teaching strategy using this premise with birth order theory in the Human Behavior and the Social Environment classroom is outlined in this teaching note. The various concepts involved in critiquing both research and theory are outlined when students apply their own family constellation to the initial survey and later discussion of the results.
