Improving the Quality of Pilot/Feasibility Trials Reporting in Pediatric Psychology

High-quality interventions trials are necessary for advancing care for pediatric populations, and the Journal of Pediatric Psychology (JPP) has a longstanding interest in publishing intervention research in the field. As research methodologies for intervention research have advanced and become more complex, JPP has kept pace. In 2018, one goal for the new editorial term was to expand JPP’s focus on intervention research and enhance the quality of reporting of clinical trials in JPP (Palermo, 2018). Among the strategies suggested for achieving this goal was to encourage a wide range of intervention research across the entire translational pipeline, spanning early intervention development to efficacy studies to translation for community implementation (Hommel et al., 2015). Another strategy suggested was to increase the quality of clinical trial reporting and the success rate in the publication of intervention studies in the journal. A new editorial position (now called the Assistant Editor for Transparent Reporting) was created to review intervention studies with a specific focus on enhancing the quality and transparency of trial reporting (Hildenbrand, 2018).
