In Reply Our data set1 is unique in that it likely represents one of the largest and most comprehensive surveys of surgeon attitudes toward their careers. The extensive demographic data allow for analysis of satisfaction of various subgroups of surgeons. We do feel personal responsibility for maximizing the utility of this data in respect to the gracious efforts of thousands of surgeons who took the time to take the survey. That said, these comparisons take a significant amount of statistical legwork given our decision to make adjustments to control for nonresponse bias. In the future, we plan to publish detailed data on satisfaction by different specialty groups, explore responses by rural surgeons, examine factors related to satisfaction in academic careers, and analyze differences between this survey and a very similar survey some of the authors performed 20 years prior.2
