Understanding the dependence of streamer initiation on hydrometeors size using Raether-Meek criterion

We have carried out a series of simulations on streamer initiation from hydrometeors with different sizes. The simulation results confirm the findings from previous research that larger hydrometeors can trigger streamer discharges at lower ambient fields. Meek number is used to interpret the dependence of the critical field to initiate streamer on the hydrometeor size. This work indicates that a smaller Meek number ranging from 15 to 18 is needed for streamer initiation from spherical hydrometeors. The lowest value is slightly smaller than the lowest Meek number suggested by Raether-Meek criterion.
