To the Editor We read with great interest the Review article by Stewart and Fong.1 We completely agree with the concluding remarks that there is a critical need for additional research on the effects of perioperative cannabis. However, we have some concerns.

The authors state after citing very early publications that there is “…no demonstrable association between cannabis use and myocardial infarction.”1 However, multiple case reports over the past years have linked cannabis to acute myocardial infarction. A recent publication examined whether patients with chronic cannabis use have an elevated risk of postoperative complications.2 This large nationwide patient sample study demonstrated that chronic cannabis consumption is associated with a meaningful increase in the risk of postoperative myocardial infarction.2
