Development and Validation of Integrated High Voltage Gas Circuit Breaker Analysis Code

This paper outlines the code development and validation used for our integrated high voltage gas circuit breaker analysis program. In order to validate the model we have developed, various measurement tests were performed and the results used as reference data. Pressure, arc temperature, the amount of nozzle ablation and arc voltage were the main factors investigated for evaluating the interrupting performance of gas circuit breakers. All these factors were measured and validated using the developed code and measurement experiments. This validation was carried out for both self-blast and puffer type gas circuit breakers. Mixtures of SF6, CO2, O2 and fluoronitrile were used as the gas medium during validation. The results of all this validation testing were used for the development of the integrated gas circuit breaker simulation code.
