Abstract—

In large African barbs of the generalized form inhabiting lakes Langano and Awasa, variation in parameters related to catching and holding prey is correlated with body length. However, no such correlation is observed in generalized barbs from Lake Tana, indicating that variation in these fish is not a gradual change in morphology in consequence of growth-associated shift in the diet but rather a result of microevolution directed at giving rise to sympatric forms occupying different trophic niches.
