But he will also face divisive issues leftover from the previous administration, including tougher enforcement of U.S. government requirements that scientists disclose foreign sources of funding. The government can do better than the current confusing mélange of rules, Lander told Science last week in one of his first media interviews after Vice President Kamala Harris swore him in as director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy.
