Influencing Factors of Collagen-I Grafting on Chitosan/Methyl Vinyl Silicone Rubber

Abstract

The antibacterial properties of chitosan and self-repairing properties of collagen-I play important roles in the medical field. New types of collagen-I/chitosan/methyl vinyl silicone rubber materials have been synthesized by blending and grafting copolymerization. The effects of chitosan contents on mechanical and antibacterial properties of collagen-I/chitosan/methyl vinyl silicone rubber were investigated, while the morphology and molecular structure were observed and analyzed. It was determined that the antibacterial and self-repairing properties of collagen-I/chitosan/methyl vinyl silicone rubber were better than those of methyl vinyl silicone rubber. Additionally, the optimal contents of chitosan and collagen-I were determined to be 5 wt % and 5 mg/mL, respectively.
