Effect of Retrogression and Re-Aging on Tensile Mechanical Properties in Transverse Direction of Extruded Rods from Aluminum Alloy AA7049

The effect retrogression and re-aging (RRA treatment) on the tensile properties in the transverse direction of extruded rods from aluminum alloy AA7049 is investigated. Transmission electron microscopy is used to study the structure and the phase transformations occurring in the alloy under the RRAtreatment. The conductivity of the alloy is measured in different conditions. It is shown that the RRA elevates the strength and the ductility in the transverse direction of rods from alloy AA7049 as compared to conventional aging.
