Abstract

Anthracite from Omsukchan Basin is investigated by up-to-date analytical methods. Information is provided regarding the composition and calorific value of the anthracite, its petrographic characteristics, the quality of its mineral component, and its thermomechanical and physicochemical properties and their variation on heating to 600–1000°C. In addition, the ease of graphitization of the anthracite and its X-ray structural characteristics are determined. In the light of its characteristics, potential metallurgical uses for the anthracite are noted.
