Steam reforming of methane on Ni/La-SBA-15 with high hydrothermal stability

The prepared mesoporous silica SBA-15 was modified by doping with La by an incipient wet impregnation method. XRD, TEM, NMR and FT–IR were used to evaluate the influence of La doping amounts on the structure and hydrothermal stability of SBA-15. The results showed that the introduction of La could significantly improve the hydrothermal stability of the mesoporous silica SBA-15. The silanol groups on the defect sites of pore surface are the main place for lanthanum to enter. After being treated with steam at 750 °C for 40 h, La-SBA-15 with appropriated amount of La loading maintained a highly ordered structure. In addition, a mesoporous Ni/5La-SBA-15 catalyst was prepared by an incipient wet impregnation method, and steam reforming of methane was carried out on this catalyst for 100 h at 750 °C with CH4:H2O:N2 = 4:12:1. During the reaction, the CH4 conversion rate remained unchanged, and the catalyst activity did not decrease, confirming that La-SBA-15 can be used as a hydrothermally stable support for catalytic reactions contained steam.
