Spectral broadening of 1.0 μm emission in Nd3+/Pr3+co-doped and Er3+/Nd3+/Pr3+ tri-doped zinc tellurite glass

The main objective of this work is to study the broadening of the 1.0 μm emission band by multi-rare-earth (RE) ions doping. Therefore, Near-infrared (NIR) emission in zinc-tellurite (TZ) glasses has been investigated. A series of TZ glasses with the nominal molar composition of 70%TeO2–30%ZnO doped with Pr3+, Nd3+, Er3+, co-doped with Pr3+/Nd3+ ions, and tri-doped with Pr3+/Nd3+/Er3+ ions were successfully prepared. The study has focused on the optical absorption as well as the photoluminescence (PL) measurements of the different used samples. The PL investigation, under 488 nm excitation line, has demonstrated that the spectral broadening of the 1.0 μm emission band in the range of 900–1150 nm has been significantly improved. This improvement was mainly caused by the presence of the overlapping emission bands associated to Er3+, Nd3+, and Pr3+ and the energy transfer between these ions in the glass host.
