This paper comments on the article “On the effect of excessive solar exposure on human skin: Confocal Raman spectroscopy as a tool to assess advanced glycation end products” by A.F.M. Pereira et al. The authors apply Raman spectroscopy to detect advanced glycation end products in human skin and to classify skin tissues by means of their Raman spectra. Despite a similarity between skin tissues spectra and AGEs spectra, some measurements of AGEs in the skin based on the previously validated techniques are required to prove AGEs presence. To confirm the possibility to discriminate skin tissues using Raman spectra analysis the authors should provide additional data regarding the obtained discriminating models.
