Study for the documentation of an engraving of Siega Verde (Salamanca, Spain) by low-cost photogrammetry with a mobile phone

In this work, the possibilities of using mobile phones to obtain three-dimensional models using digital photogrammetry of Siega Verde rock engravings are explored. Even though the general characteristics and engraving techniques from the Upper Palaeolithic in different sites could have stablished similarities, the specific nature of the rocks in every open-air archaeological site give place to particular texture of the engravings as well as different colour. This makes it necessary to explore the possibilities of photogrammetry at each specific site and to check what results can be obtained. A figure of a horse has been studied to show that, using a simple procedure, three-dimensional models can be constructed with a quality high enough to generate useful files for dissemination and documentation. The models allow visualizing the details, generating orthophotos with good resolution, obtaining information on the execution process, and producing two-dimensional as well as three-dimensional objective and realistic tracings.
