TDOF model for evaluating the global and local impact response of steel-plate composite panels

Steel-plate composite (SC) panel consists of two steel plates, a core concrete, and various types of mechanical connectors. The SC panel demonstrates the high bearing capacity and energy dissipation capacity against impact loading. This paper put forwards an improved two-degree-of-freedom (TDOF) mass–spring–damper model to evaluate the impact response of the SC panel. The derivations and verifications are discussed and results show that the model gives satisfactory predictions on both failure modes and impact responses, including impact force, projectile displacement, and panel deflection time histories.
