In our review (Loftus et al. 2020), we present a conceptual framework that illustrates a potential mechanism explaining the emergence of task allocation in social groups. In our framework, social grouping leads to an increase in among-individual variation, which then begets a system of task allocation guided by task syndromes. Commentaries on our review have spotlighted several additions and modifications to the feedbacks within the framework, and in doing so, pave exciting avenues for future research.
