Cheryl Dybas, in her December Feature article about microplastics, seems to have missed one very important aspect of the issue—namely, the origin of most of the microplastics in the environment. The vast majority of them do not come from toothpaste, cosmetics, or the breaking up of plastic bottles. They are fibers that are shed from our clothing.
