Lateral Dynamic Response of Tapered Pile Embedded in a Cross-Anisotropic Medium

ABSTRACT

This study presents a mathematical solution to evaluate the response characteristics of a tapered pile embedded in cross-anisotropic medium, under lateral harmonic force. The resistance of the cross-anisotropic viscoelastic half-space to a harmonic force acting in the lateral direction is obtained. The soil is demarcated into an interior weakened and an exterior linear region. The proposed procedure is validated using a reported field test of forced vibration of a cylindrical pile. The present methodology is able to predict the resonant frequency within an error of 3.5–5.1%. Further, few parametric studies are conducted.
