Vibration fatigue analysis using response spectra

Vibration fatigue analysis for design and proof out can be performed by simulation and testing. For both, the design loads must be described in a way that represents amplitudes, number of cycles and frequency distribution of the operational loads. Response spectra are presented for this task, not describing the input signals themselves, but rather the potential responses the loads may cause in virtual structures. From reference response spectra, fatigue equivalent input loads suitable for simulation and testing are derived with a specific focus on power spectral densities. The process is described and validated for different types of operational loading and the possible applications of response spectra for post-test analyses are shown.
