Studies on contract workers have not adequately addressed the work behavior of employees holistically. The study was conducted in selected organizations in the telecommunication sector in Ibadan. Reserve army of labor theory provided the theoretical framework. The research design is cross sectional. A two‐stage sampling comprising of simple random sampling and comprehensive sampling was adopted to select respondents for the study. The sample comprised 200 Organization X outsourced workers and 53 Organization Y outsourced workers, resulting in a sample size of 253 respondents. Quantitative and qualitative data were collected through the use of questionnaire, in‐depth interview, and key informant interview. Quantitative data were analyzed using frequency tables and percentages while qualitative data were analyzed using content analysis. Findings revealed that job satisfaction, job stress, and job commitment influenced one another, but job stress stood as a major factor that influences the level of job satisfaction and commitment of the respondents. It further showed that work behavior varies across the two organizations and that contract work is dehumanizing, indecent, and not ideal for the individual worker and the growth of the nation at large.
