Tobias Wofford is an assistant professor in the Department of Art History at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond. After receiving the PhD in art history at the University of California in Los Angeles, he taught art history at Santa Clara University. He was a 2015–2016 Terra Foundation Postdoctoral Fellow at the Smithsonian American Art Museum where he conducted research on his book project, “Visualizing Diaspora: Africa in African American Art.” He has contributed critical essays to such academic anthologies as Postwar: Art between the Pacific and the Atlantic: 1945–1965, eds. Okwui Enwezor, et al; New World Coming: The Sixties and the Shaping of Global Consciousness, eds. Karen Dubinsky et al., as well as in a number of academic periodicals, including Art Journal, NKA, Interventions, Chicago Art Journal, International Review of African American Art, and Third Text.
