Dictée's Postmodern Mourning: A "line connects the void"

Abstract:This paper uses Kristevan theory to demonstrate how the postmodernity of Cha's Dictée carries it out of melancholia into mourning, by working through multiple personal and political traumas. Traversing Catholic Mysteries and celebrating women at the intersection of the body and the nameable, Dictée enacts psychoanalytic forgiveness, transforming suffering into meaning. Yet the wounds of history are resurrected as remnants (in sync with Agamben's work) that refuse to break the tie between the possibility and impossibility of speaking.
