Kwame Anthony Appiah , Homi Bhabha

Abstract:In a wide-ranging discussion Homi Bhabha and Anthony Appiah reflect on the present moment in the humanities, in African-American Studies, in philosophy and literary studies, and in politics around the world. Among the topics they discuss are: honor and dignity and their relation to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights; teaching in an increasingly diverse university; the role of the Internet in shaping culture and politics; challenges to legitimacy in India and the United States; the predicament of the academic precariat in the arts and humanities; and the relations between global and local citizenship.
