Abstract

The effect of SO2 on the oxidative conversion of hydrogen and methane in a wide range of temperatures of 400–1500°C at a pressure of the reacting mixture of 1 atm was studied by numerical kinetic analysis. The analysis showed that sulfur dioxide could have both accelerating and retarding effects on the oxidative conversion of hydrogen and methane, which is due to the participation of SO2 and the products of its chemical transformation in the conjugated process. An accelerating effect of SO2 on the oxidative conversion of hydrogen and methane was observed at low temperatures, and a retarding effect at elevated temperatures.
