broadcast in 1952 on German radio. Realistically, however, the presentation of print media sources alone has resulted in a tome of over 700 pages. Th erefore, the role of radio and fi lm in these Cold War discourses is one of the areas suggested for future studies. Th e authors make a compelling and wellsupported argument for a reevaluation of the Austrian postwar literary canon with a large and welldocumented body of texts. Th e biographical entries for the authors of the texts treated here is also helpful, since many of the names are not well known today. Clearly, there was a signifi cant body of literature present that did not fi t into the prevailing image of Austrian literary culture of the 1950s and early 1960s, due in part to its political nature in a period where relatively few favored such topics. Th at image stands now partially corrected and awaits further scrutiny. Joseph McVeigh Smith College

Die Korrektur des Lebens: Studien zu Thomas Bernhard by Micaela Latini
