ABSTRACT

This article studies the persona which enabled Marion Cotillard to become a Hollywood star at the end of the 2000s. Insofar as her part in La Vie en rose (Olivier Dahan, 2007) was key to her success in the US, the author’s analysis focuses first and foremost on her performance in this film, as well as the media content that accompanied its release. He pays specific attention to the national dimension of her image, the ambivalence of which explains the exceptional success that Cotillard has had in Hollywood, where so many other female French stars have failed.
