This paper explores World War II British films that used costumes as propaganda to influence women to accept the challenges of wartime. The films analyzed are authentic, real-life wartime dramas: Millions Like Us (1943), The Gentle Sex (1943), and Two Thousand Women (1944). The female characters in these films served as inspirational models of survival and also as figures of propaganda, encouraging civilians to do their part to win the war. These actors faced wartime challenges of clothing shortages, rationing, female conscription, wartime service, and social-class dissolution, mirroring their counterparts in the cinema audience.
