Effects of Authentic Leadership on Employees’ Turnover Intention and Self-efficacy in South Korea’s Casino Industry: The Moderating Roles of Employees’ Gender and Age

ABSTRACT

Although managers in South Korea’s casino industry have continued to consciously adopt leadership styles, the literature on how authentic leadership has impacted the industry remains scarce. Therefore, the purpose of our study was to investigate the relationships between authentic leadership, employees’ self-efficacy, and turnover intention at casinos, as well as whether employees’ gender and age moderate the relationship between authentic leadership and their self-efficacy. After data were collected from casino employees in South Korea, 281 usable surveys were processed using structural analysis. Among the results, not only did authentic leadership and employees’ self-efficacy positively relate to each other, but customer satisfaction significantly influenced turnover intention as well. Moreover, employees’ gender and age indeed moderated the relationship between their self-efficacy and authentic leadership. This study discusses the several implications of its findings for researchers and practitioners.
