ABSTRACT

Brazil was one of the first countries in Latin America to introduce free and universal vaccination against hepatitis B, but reaching vulnerable groups is a challenge. This study investigates the immunization situation against hepatitis B and associated factors in 353 homeless individuals from Central Brazil, between August 2014 and June 2015. Although the Brazilian public health provides universal vaccination against hepatitis B, and a low immunization rate (19.4%) was observed in homeless people. Only age was associated with seroprotection against hepatitis B (p = .03). Vaccination strategies should be strengthened, whether in shelters or on the streets directly.
