The purpose of this paper is to describe an under-recognized meta-table introduced by Nancy Clark. Although lowly cited the usefulness of this table as a structured set of metadata is shown. Clark’s introduction of the table tamer is summarized and illustrated. As a meta-table, Clark’s Table tamer provides a concise summary of the contents as well as the information structure of a table in a scientific article. The more these data are provided in the legend or title of a table, the easier the reader can understand the table. A meta-table, as introduced by Clark, may reveal that necessary information is missing. The article brings Nancy Clark’s table tamer to the attention of readers and editors and illustrates its use. It is concluded that being uncited or even unused does not necessarily mean to be without value.
