Kristīne Mārtinsone from the US, introduce the expressive therapies continuum (ETC), as assessment and therapeutic tool in music therapy. This concept uses a developmental perspective on kinaesthetic/sensory, perceptual/affective and cognitive/symbolic levels of information processing. Their case study of a 65-year-old breast cancer survivor exemplifies the improvement in related depressive symptoms. In summary, this book shows the diversity in arts therapies as well as in research designs and approaches, but still, each author and chapter underline the creative process and aesthetic involvement as core to their work in treating depression and enhancing well-being. Besides important quantitative studies, something the fields of arts therapies needs, it presents a rich collection of qualitative studies which can inspire ideas for future research. This is a significant resource for anyone involved in treating depression. Finally, by specialising on depression, the book fits into the series on ‘International Research in the Arts Therapies.’
