Emily Eastgate Brink

M. Rousseau deserves special mention for his communal dishes. This clever industrial designer has resolved the problem of creating a faïence ware that is both appealing and affordable... He selected for his collaborator an artist who understood how to glaze a plate, and who, additionally, made fantastic etchings and gravitated to bold images. Bracquemond, inspired by both the Japanese and his own ideas, has populated his dishes with a charming world of fowl and flowers. This disk of fired clay, that, when left bare, recalls a grey sky in December, becomes in the hand of this decorator, a truly delightful vision.
