In this commentary, I offer several reflections on this important Special Issue focused on the science of investigative interviewing. While the number of syntheses and their quality are impressive, I note that a majority of the papers included in the issue focus on techniques for detecting deception. I urge scholars to focus also on developing and evaluating techniques for eliciting information from suspects and sources. I also comment on the important future directions discussed by authors of the Special Issue, including the importance of open science, further developing our empirical paradigms, increasing and diversifying our samples, and enhancing our study moderators and measures.
